re: WPress forums... I tried 'em first, but got no replies (not one). But I did finally get one from the forum on the website of the developer (another user with the same problem) and we figured it out.
Summary of the solution: I had to go into the database using phpmyadmin, find the wp_options.php file and search it for the name of the theme... then replace the quicklinks I'd entered with an "N"... carefully so as not to disrupt the punctuation of the coding.
After saving that and backing out, it worked. No more problem.
Still, I'm a complete newbie to that kind of stuff. Didn't have a clue what I was doing. Anyway, now it works... thanks again.
