PDA programming... Which language?

Hey everybody,

First of all, I don't really know where to post this, so I decided I'd post it here. Mods: feel free to move it to the most suitable forum.

Right, a friend of me has asked me to write him a program which he can use on his PDA. Basically it'll be something like this:

* He will have a PC/server at home, most probably using either MySQL or SQL Server as database system
* On the job he will have a PDA on which he will store information he collects (in this case details of products, consisting of technical details of every item)
* Arriving home (or maybe even in between jobs?) he will synchronize his PDA with the PC/server, transferring all the collected information into the database
* With a program on the PC/Server he will be able to show and print the details from the database.

Now, the problem is: I haven't got a clue where to start! I know my way around PHP/MySQL pretty well, have done a bit in JavaScript/AJAX and have programmed in VB.Net and REALBasic. So... Where do I go from here?

I've googled the internet and searched these forums, but haven't found a lot. Except for one post on here about using MSQM Message Queue in combination with the .NET framework and SQL Server, but again: I'm lost and don't know where to go. So, any good websites or reading material to get me started? Pointers in the right direction?

Many thanks in advance,
Thyrosis
