Hi guys...

A couple years ago, I created some Perl/CGI scripts that sold pretty well. Back then, PERL was one of, if not THE, most popular method of creating CGI scripts and making a site interactive in general.

Anyway, times change. I've spent much time learning most parts of the .Net framework.

My question: is the demand for ASP.net scripts (software) anywhere *near as high as it was for perl/cgi stuff a few years ago (or now) ? I have been out of this "loop" for a while...

The main reason I am asking is I know windows servers are slightly less common than Linux(*nix) servers, and on top of that, I'm not sure how many Windows servers even have .Net installed (anyone have an estimate?).

Is there a decent market for ASP.net software out there? Anyone out there have any success selling ASP.net software?

It depends on your market. Many large companies will purchase ASP.net applications because ASP.net = Microsoft and their environment is MS-based. However, if you are looking to target the small websites, then no, you probably won't see much demand in that area.

I used to write scripts in Perl, but I much rather use/develop ASP.net apps.
