Magical appearing navigation

This post comes has two parts. I am designing a site but only have access to a Mac, equipped with Virtual PC. On IE6 is appears that, on some pages of this site, the navigation does not appear. I have put up a test case: IE Magical Appearing Navigation.

Please observe: on loading the page, the navigation and the words "some text" should appear in the left column. They do not. Now hover over the link in the right-hand colum that reads "ipsum dolor." The left-hand column magically appears! Now head to test-case 2, where the navigation appears the first time I load the page in a new browser window, and then whenever it feels like it on subsequent reloads. Sometimes I have to mouse over that link. It would have taken me hours to strip down the styles in test case 2, so I left them all. Still, all the styles I stripped out of test-case 1 should NOT make any difference.

My two questions are: 1) is this some quirk of my Virtual PC, or does this happen on your actual PCs as well, and 2) do you know how to fix it? My IE6 bug-fixes are really rusty.

Thanks for your help!

Gosh, 29 views and no one can mention whether this happens or not in their IE6 too? Disappointing…

It does happen on my IE 6.0.

You can use an HTML and CSS validator to build sites. These can be really tedious the first few times around, but they will ensure your code will run on more browsers.

w3c.org has validators. You can also search with google (or any search engine).

Good luck.

Thanks...but my HTML and CSS already validate.
