CSS columns

Hi as you can probably tell I'm a beginner to CSS, but how do you make set columns on a page similar to the <td> tag in HTML tables. I think there might be a different way to do it in CSS I just don't know how. Also, I have two other questions.

-on my site, I have 60px margins on the left and right sides, how do I fill those with color and not the content in between?

-how do you make tables that scroll by themselves and do not make the entire page scroll?

I realize these questions aren't well explained, but if no one understands what I'm talking about i'll return later to clarify (I'm in a rush right now)

Thanks in advance.

Glish might be a good start for you (if I understand your question correctly.) There are lots of good ways to make table-less layouts explained on there.

As for your second question, you may want to use padding rather than margins (?). Try checking out some CSS documentation/tutorials. W3Schools is a good start.

And your third question sounds like it is more of a javascript question.
