Hi,
This has been bugging me for so long that i took a day to work-out and document how to get Transparency to work with links in IE using PNGs instead of the CSS Opacity style.

There are a few different ways to do this (css hacks, javascript, htc files.)

This page does a good job at explaining the issue and explaining the css solution:

There is also some discussion on that page explaining workarounds for the tansparent text issue you mentioned in your post.

i believe i looked at that website a while back, but their example didnt seem to work on my box?
Someone replied to my post saying that my examples dont work in ie... can anyone confirm? im on a mac running good o'l firefox, so it all works for me

OSX/Camino here. But I'm pretty sure it was working in IE6 for me this afternoon at work...
