Question Database suggestions and small questions

Hello everyone,

Theres a project im having about designing my own e store,
however there are some little questions :

Im already reading/researching on MySQL database and php.

What I am looking for is having a database which I can link to the webpage
and then filter (with the if or so functions) for brands, sizes and so on,
creating dinamic webpages from the items I "upload".

For the "uploading" part, is there something I can use, or any topic I can look for help?
Is MySQL my best option, or should I pick something else?

Is there any platform I can use to upload the "items"?
sending them directly to the directory?

Or it would be way easier to just make a bunch of carpets with the brands name and having a template to fill everytime I want to upload an item online?

Thanks in advance, so many questions, bet must of you could answer in a second but anyway,
thanks in advance!

If theres something else I can add, I want it to work more like

Get a Content Management System (CMS)...
Like WordPress, Joomla, Drupal - but I'd opt for WordPress to start.

Karmaloop appears to be running on ASP and either a homegrown CMS or possibly Microsoft's MVC. Definitely a smattering of old style custom code in the U.I. It works!

Excuse me if I'm being presumptuous about your abilities, but I don't believe you're ready to tackle that level of coding. But by all means if you have the aptitude - learn.

Learn to use the CMS to its fullest and develop your business model.
Get those with experience to do the coding where required.
This of course assumes you have the $ - you may very well have same.

Karmaloop is getting over 500k visitors a month which indicates they've been at this awhile. Original domain name was registered in 1999. Can you say Prince! :-)

They seem to know what they're doing and I assume they're making some moolah.

Their site is pretty cool.
