Flash and backwards compatibility

Hi all,

I wonder how compatible various Flash players are.

For instance, I want to creat some rather basic flash applications that most surfers will be able to access, even if they have a little dated players installed.

I don't want to force visitors to upgrade to "the latest" even if its free.

I'll create my content using the latest "Pro 8" version writing some actionscripts.

So, what are the issues to consider for backwards compatibility?

I know that Flash is very widely accepted (according to adobe's recent survey, about 98% worldwide !?). But at least I had some minor problems when downloading the most recent player.

Thanks,
Jaxz

Hi Jaxz,

You can look in the Flash Help or on http://livedocs.macromedia.com/.
May be you look for "LoadVars".
There is this availability named: Availability: ActionScript 1.0; Flash Player 6.
This means this function can be used from Flashplayer 6 upwards.

Also Flash diplays an error by publishing your Project, if you use a function that is for the publishing version not available.

greets

Yeah, it's really simple. Al you have to do is go to the publsih settings and publsih it as an older Flash version. But most surfers should have Flash Player 8, and if they don't shame on them.
