I read somewhere that submitting articles to article directories like "Hotscripts" can badly affect your position on Google. Is this true? i.e. like you would be better not submitting it at all?

That is true, as long as you have a link back from your article to your site. It will definitely not hurt.

Right, what I am asking is will submitting articles to Hotscripts affect the position of my website in a bad way?

Hotscripts does not let you "really" submit the article, it is really just a link from the directory to my article. Will this affect my position in Google in a bad way or not?

No. Unless google considers hotscripts a link farm. Checking the pagerank for the hotscripts domain, it was showing as 8/10 so I'm sure it can only help.

I am not an SEO expert, but Hotscripts has a high pagerank so if you submit it and have a link on their site to your site won't that INCREASE SEO?
