Does SSI affect XHTML compliancy?

If I include a text file in my XHTML file using SSI, will the resulting file be XHTML-compliant?

(Assume that any code in the included text file is properly formatted!)

Yes it will. By the time the browser receives the page it will be whole - includes won't be taken into account by any XHTML validation.

Intuitively I felt that it should not make any difference, but SSI coding looks so messy that I thought it may have some negative effect on compliance.

Thanks for your reply.

By the time the browser reveives any SSI, it's converted to flat html. Like going view source at these forums, you'll be presented with static html. As long as you're including standard complient code, you'll be set, no matter how ugly it might get. +)
