Loading local image in netscape

Hi,

I have discovered after my recent post that the file:// protocol in Netscape versions 7 and 8 is disabled. You have to change a property to get a image to display using file://.

All I want to do is put a input type=file control on a page and a button so that the user selects an image and then I want o display that image on the page when they click the button.

Of course I am using javascript to do this as it is all client stuff.

It works in IE fine.

How do get the image to display????

What was going to suggest is use something like this:
http://bills-computer.local/~username
where bills-computer is your network name for that machine and the images would have to be served out of your defualt server folder, assuming you have a server running locally.

Now I'm on a Mac and I used to be able to use file:// etc etc but after a new version of OSX and browser updates this no longer worked and nobody could answer the Q.

I think how I came up with this was by opening the file from the browser File Menu->Open then what ever that field contained, but use a Mozilla browser. Not IE.

Being OSX ships with Apache installed it was a matter of configuring the http.conf file and designate a default folder for serving images and documents.

On the network I also have a WIN machine but I am unable to test this.
