Done, but with errors on page.

Hey Everyone,

I'm sure everyone has encountered the little error message that is displayed on the left side of their status bar in internet explorer - "Done, but with errors on the page.". I have designed a website using xhtml, and everytime i view it that error message appears even though everything works properly. I googled to see if i could perhaps find someone with a similar problem, i found lots of responses but the only one that seemed logical to me was to reinstall IE. I haven't reinstalled because i need a second opinion.

The error message doesn't appear when i view other websites (except for some), and all the other websites i've designed dont show the error message either. It's just this one website. I figured the error message pops up due to some tags that are empty or maybe there are tags that have been opened but not closed.... but that can't be it since i checked the code thoroughly and couldn't find anything wrong, and to double check i used dreamweavers feature of 'Clean Up XHTML' in order to check for empty tags or opened but not closed tags..... but that error message still appears on the status bar in IE. I have a few rules i adhere to when creating websites and one of them is to make sure that if i create an XHTML website that it is validated by the W3C. Every page i have designed for this website is XHTML 1.0 compliant.

Is this just a bug in IE? or am i missing something i should be doing?

Thanks for your time,

- CK

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think that IE shows error messages for HTML errors. I guess there's a javascript somewhere in between. Would be easier to say though if you could post your code.

If you double click on the little error icon, you get get more information about what it thinks the problem is.

Hey nico_swd,

Thank you for your prompt response. That was what, less that 10 minutes?? ...lol. All the javascript code is program generated. I can't imagine anything wrong with the javascript code since it comes straight from dreamweaver. When i try refreshing the IE browser after seeing the error, the error actually goes away. When i refresh again a couple times the error comes back. Its really confusing because IE displays the error, but once refreshed the error is gone.

Thanks for your input .

hey mab,

Thanks for your prompt response. I actually did that and the error states the following: 'document[...]' is null or not an object.

Sounds like a javascript error which i am investigating, but what doesn't make sense to me is how internet explorer first renders the page by displaying that error message - but once refreshed the error message goes away. I tried refreshing the same page loads of times to see if the error comes back but it doesn't. The page is rendered correctly.

Thanks once again for your input.
