[SOLVED] Force Excel file to open in Excel and not in Browser plugin.

Hey everyone.

I'm fairly new to HTML and am using a free Wiki Solution (screwturn) where I want to link an Excel file. When I do this, the file opens in the browser plugin, which is fine by me. The problem is that I cannot save the changes I make to the file by means of the browser plugin. If I open the file in Excel using UNC path I can save the changes.

Now the question is: can I force the file to be opened in Excel by means of HTML or is that, as with the QuickTime issue on this forum, impossible and would require more advanced changes in the Wiki?

Thanx in advance for some advice!

As long as you use a link it isn't possible. Do you have scripting possiblities? Can you write your own php, asp scripting in this system?

Unfortunately no direct scripting possibilities in the page editor. The Wiki is open source however, so it would be possible to do some editing in the source code. However i feel that I do not have the know-how to do that. It's written in ASP...

Thanks for the quick reply.

But i thought of another thing... Couldn't I just link to an external HTML page containing a script that opens the Excel file in Excel? In that case, do you have any idea about how to implement this?

OK then check this thread: http://www.programmingtalk.com/showt...=PushFile.aspx

Do you know how to create your own Asp.Net pages/website?

just checked the other thread, but that would actually force the user to locally store the file. Which would not be what i need. I need the file to be available for editing in Excel and then saved on the network location.

But maybe it's just a question of NTFS security, which prohibits me to save the changes back to the file from the browser plugin...
