creating a database driven community website

Hello,

I am in the process of putting together a database driven community website, I would appreciate some help/guidance on the following matters:

1. Currently I have basic html skills. I have hosting space but am struggling to get the web applications onto my space and configured properly - things like content managment modules/messageboads/ menu scripts etc

Is there a good online/offline reference source for beginners? Can anyone advise me on this? Is it a case that I should leave it to the pro's?

2. If I do work with a professional are there things I should be looking out for, can anyone advise me on this please?

Any other input/advise would be greatly appreciated - this of course wont pay for your beer, but I have a sound business plan and a relatively open market in which to grow so money may come later.

Thanks, Alan

There are tons of Open Source community driven CMS. My fav still remains PostNuke.com. Easy to install, and tons of modules to customize your site...

Good luck!

Thanks Ahmad

Thanks for getting back to me. Yeah, I have found no end of great stuff to download, but I really need to understand how to get them running on my webspace etc, do you know of any online web tutorials that can talk me through the very basics from a first timers point of view..

Right, always always always look for a README in the script. Then, to install them, it is usually a matter of

Upload the script to your webspace (You know how to do that I assume)
Create the database if needed
Run install script

And that's it

Don't know of any tutorials, but hope that my post helped a little
