The product sounds very interesting. You seem to have made a typo in your budget though. You are asking for somebody who doesn't live in their parents' basement. You also want ongoing support and testing after installation. If you really wanted those two things, you would be offering enough money to enable that. At minimum you're talking about a week's commitment for somebody who does drop off the script and abandone you, and realistically you want some attention for at least a month, probably with another month of tweaking. Unfortunately the local burger joint is paying better wages for a week's work.

If you want somebody who doesn't live in their parents' basement, and won't disappear as soon as they cash your check and deliver the code (in that order), you'd better pay enough money for them to move out of that basement. Figure out what you monthly house, car, electric, phone and internet bills are. If you're not willing to offer that for two weeks work, you aren't in the market for custom programming. That's because the programmer has those same bills. He also has to cover a lot of other things, like health insurance and retirement.

I doubt the guy will even find someone to do it for him. Only $300 for all of that? Yeah right, your talking atleast $600+...

This guy thinks we live in the golden age when candy was a penny and a car was a couple hundred dolars.

Hmm, rather rough, but expected.

Clarification;

someone with experience

Someone who will not drop off bad code and nver be heard of again. If you make code you realize you can miss a bit and you should take care of your own. (3days max emails to install and debug)

300 too little? really... for a modified existing shopping cart and a simple user management backend?

Hmm, if you do not have the skills and the existing scripts, yes it would be a lot of money to pay you to learn how, but I am looking for someone with experience that already has done code before and has enough working engines that it should not take long to get it together.

also, for those who cannot read, budget based on experience and scope of project...

Already found someone who will do it for an agreed price.

as for people living at home, I would assume you are very young without much experience (read: full of bugs) or a older programmer who could not make it.

IF you knwo SQL/PHP and have done a shopping cart before, it should take less than a day to adjust it to time based, and simple user authentication to make a 'admin' area with simple textareas for upload to a relative databse.

I guess some of you get those 3,000 dollar contracts everyday, so don't even look at my ads if you do, it is out of my range.

and as a final, the nice gentleman that is confused about the support and testing is completely off base.

It should take a small bit of time to install....and I would expect that bugs be addressed as I adapt it to the site.

If the program works, then it should need no support or testing, but a GOOD programmer would realize that he can miss some things and to expect a few emails the first few days saying 'this is not working'....

Good Programmers deliver quotes not insults
good programmers actually "READ" the specs and notes and not jump to conclusions.

And to help you understand why I had to put that there, perhaps you should put an ad out for software.....the number of inexperienced people that basically spam the living hell out of you (especially the guys from pakistan and india) is so alarming and so annoying, that one must be harsh and rouhg to try to drive them away.

I pay bonuses for good work.

I have a stockpile of scripts bought for 50 to 500 dollars taht do not work and suck. if you would like to buy one, let me know, I have tons of them.

Money is not an issue.... experience and ability are...... if you have it, bring it on, if not, then sorry if my ad offends you..

actually, no I am not sorry my ad offends you..... I really do not care what you think.....

have fun building your cheap scripts and complaining that no one will hire you.

I pay cash and quick and upfront. I pay bonuses.

money talks, BS walks bucky

blah

PoliticalGateway you will probably want to post your offer for work on Devlance.Net as well. There are some qualified programmers lurking around there. Good luck!

Thanks Master,

I found a programmer that will do it, with bonuses for time built and scope of finished project.

What I would really like is someone that is local so they can work in office (or at least once in a while work in office..).

So hard to find a local programmer. They do not have to be great, but some experience or intuitiveness would be appreciated.

My search continues.

Hopefully with this ad script I will be able to pay 1,000 a week instead of just 300/week for a programmer...(of course for 1,000 I would espect it to not be part time...lol)

lol gateway no damage done but you're project is rather "large" and your price was "unexpected" so therefore you got "expected" results.

Rittle me this, rittle me that...

LOL

Actually, I get a million answers to my ads, but no one ever seems to read the "finance print"

In at least two places I say the budget is negotiable (and in this forum that is very clear) depending on experience and scope of project..(meaning the better you are and the more complete the project is, them more I pay)

I do all the html frontend, add modifications myself, even modify the SQL tables and stuff...it is just the skeleton I need.

Many programmers put more into a project than is needed to, for some reason they think that a few thousand bells and whistles will make it work right, when it does not need it, then demand more money for extra work not needed......

And I cannot tell you how many people from india and pakistan have sent me mail after mail, some have even called me, repeatedly, to get my business....even though I specifically say I do not want someone out of the states/Canada..

I guess everyone is in a rush and no one wants to read everything. I use that as a basis to weed out people.

I love the guys that write stuff like this...(remember the specs are general with an understanding to be more specific during tech discussion)

here is an example of a confused programmer...

"sorry, I don't do fixed contracts without *complete* specification.
what is the API for the location? how can I build it in a day without the
definition and hooks?

forget it, not a worthwhile project for me unless I don't have to ask
questions and can just implement. you're describing it in words - I need to
know the JavaScript or HTTP environment variables used as input to implement
a solution. you need to specify an example page to test the solution - in
Extreme Programming you test first (this is great methodology for rapid
development of anything, not just code)."

he want sme to build the thing, or basically set up all the variables that he will need to input things..etc.... Gosh, I did not know even what to say to this guy...and this was his answer to my ad.....

I get a million of them...

lol
