I am a PHP developer with just over 1 year's professional experience. Prior to that, I had one year's academic experience and 3 years experience running a web oriented business.

Sorry to tell you this but a homepage with a contact form is a $100 job all day long. In fact I do about 2-3 of them a week at this price just for side work.

Really ? With sites like RAC I thought I might be charging to much.

Many people associate a higher price with greater quality and value.

You could check craiglist.org and elance.com to look at what other people are charging.

Also - if you're building sites based on applications like WordPress - find some skins you like, or make your own, so you can quickly deliver a nice site the client can manage on their own. Another great option is the template systems alot of hosting companies offer. In that case, rather than writing code, you show your client how to work with the application or template system to manage their own site. Saves them a tremendous amount of money in maintenance and gives you a nice income.

Well mate, I've just completed a job for £2500, so perhaps you should raise the bar a bit

And obviously, we don't want those small jobs. We are looking for larger projects, hence the higher price for simple contact form sites
However, I have recently taken on a client who wants a homepage with contact form, for £250....I would never go any lower than that...mortgages to pay etc.
