Hello all,

Let me cut right to the point so I don't waste anyones time. I am designing a Play-by-Post game called The Common Wars. I posted earlier about this job, but things have changed slightly from then. What I need is someone who can code (php/mysql) TCW game for me. Here is what I need:

1). MUST have alot of time available to work on this project. This is an absolute must. I have gone through 8 php coders who will work about 1-2% of the project every couple weeks or longer. I need someone to be working on this project at least 3-4 times a week, with work to show for it.

2). I am willing to pay $700 when the project is done only. (This is my final amount and is not negotiable.) I have had a string of bad luck when it comes to php/msql scripters as it seems this project is rather large. I am affraid if I payed upfront the work would either not get done or take several years to complete. I am also willing to give a % of any profits I make as additional payment on top of the $700. If anyone needs a down payment, I will only give $10usd to start. I have already spent almost $500usd in down payments with little work provided.

3). Scripters should be able to code situtations such as: a). Characters Hit Points will be added or reduced based on the result of the post. b). Keyword system that continues to grow allowing players to interact with NPCs. For example if a player wrote "Where can I find the Village of Krenn?" The keywords Krenn stored in the database would be referenced to all current infomation about that keyword. We might also need a custom designed Message Board as well, but if we can make it easier buy using a phpbb and change it to fit the game thats fine as well.

4). When referring to teams or groups of PHP scripters I will pay ony $700 once not to each person on a team. If you wish to have many on your staff to help code, thats ok with me however the Team leader will have to divide up the payment as he/she sees fit.

Let me mention that this game is VERY large. I will also have many ideas on what I want to do with the game. However, scripters are encouraged to give suggestions on ways to improve the game. This also means that if there is an easier and less time consuming way to achieve our goal,.. i'm all for it.

I am also very willing to sign a contract if necessary.

Can you give some idea of how big / how much time rather than just "it is big", its important when you name a price like that.
Sorry to hear that you already 'lost' 500 on it.
Also I dont know what TCW means.

lol well if I made $700 a week, I wouldn't make a Play-by-Post RPG, I would sink it into something a lot more graphical. As far as my email address is, I checked the box to allow my email visible to the public in my Programming Talk Profile.

Actually it said, when i tried it, that you did not allow PM or emails..so I tried.

I understand your concern on cost, but if you want a full time employee I would not be able to work for 3 to 7 weeks for only 700 dollars.. That is not realistic. I doubt the project would take a good fast programmer more than 3 dyas, 4 tops to complete.
1 day- Long phone conversation to go over entire project step by step to build porper blue print and make the daabase
day 2- set up login and account set up for unlimited players, build admin section to moderate
day 3 build the interplay

Anyone who tells you it will take longer is going to waste your time and take your money...and give you insecure code and buggy code.

I too used to deal with part time 'i can do that' programmers who wasted time and money...caveat emptor... most of the code is pretty much transferable (especially login and backend stuff. If they do not already have it, they should not ge tyour business.

I know how frustratin it is to find a good programmer and they take forever.

well, many employers chase "super-reasonable" bids, which are almost unrealistic and then suffer money losses and/or get no good work...
good things are never cheap...

Well thats a good question. At this point no, however the scripter I currently have only gives me 1-2 days a week. I have his first payment in my paypal account, and I am still waiting for him to IM about the prototype engine.
