Validating - Why?

Why is everyone going nuts over validating recently? There wasnt this much concern for it before and I still dont really see the point unless its a design or business site. I understand its to ensure that it looks the same in all browsers, but you can do that without being 100% valid.

it is to prove that the site coder/programer follows standerds and his work is high quality..
well of course, as you said, only a design/web development website will pay attention to this.. a personal website could ignore standerds

In fact, you might notice that besides W3C zealots like me, pretty much everybody in these forums will not care about standards.

well, I am standerd freak
but if you go to my current website you will see it's a mess of stupid MS FrontPage HTML!! why? because when I first wrote it (php script site) I was only a beginner who barely knew how to write simple PHP with FrontPagish HTML!
now that I am aware of standerds, every new script I write, stick to XHTML 1.0 transitional and valid CSS code!
but unfortunatily, I don't have enough time to rewrite my website from scratch!

P.S. your website, hardcoded, is amazing! very simple layout with comfortable to eyes colors.. nice work
