First Programming Language

Ok, I would like to start programming, but I was wondering what would be a good language to start on? Any suggestions?

Programming for what purpose? If it is to create dynamic web pages, I recommend PHP as well as a starting place.

I always recommend learning C first. It is easier to migrate to any other programming language from C.
