Best approach to asking bloggers to post about your website

Hello,

This might be a little off-topic for this forum however I could bet that many of the members here have their own blog.

Who better to ask?

Question
-------------------------------------
What is the best way to approach a blogger and ask them to blog about your business? What does the email you send look like?

A few of my notes
-------------------------------------
- I think it is imperative to only approach bloggers that write about topics in your industry.

- I feel that the business you are pitching should be of value to the blog's readers

- In blogging, there are 'leaders' - (the famous blogs everyone reads) and 'followers' - (the people who read the famous blogs and then post about what the famous ones talk about). Ha... is this a good assumption?

Additional questions
-------------------------------------
- Will bloggers expect pay?
- Will they expect a reciprocal posting on your blog?
- Will they expect a link back from your website?
- Will the blogger expect 'you' to write the posting and topic?

I appreciate everyones feedback and input.

Thanks in advance.

Tim

It never hurts to ask. The worst that could happen is them to say "no" or "I expect payment".

Yes, I totally agree with you. But what I'm asking is....what is the best approach?

It depends what the topic is...

If it's a political blog, then provide him with a link to one of your most popular/controversial posts and ask him to link to it... If he agrees with the subject matter, he might do it...

If you give him something he WANTS to link to, I don't think he'll expect to be reimbursed...

If were're talking about a good site or product I'll discuss about it on my blog. But I am awfully picky since I am a bit tired of all these paid reviews. If I love a site, I love writing about it. Money on the other hand .. cannot make me love it
