Question Best programming language for membership website?

I am in the process of building a membership type website for a wedding advertising / planning business. Customers will be able to plan their entire wedding for free (calanders, budget calculators, guest lists, etc.) . Also advertisers need to be able to sign up to advertise and create a profile and make monthly payments. There is a website similar to this idea at http://www.perfectweddingguide.com .

1. Can someone give me an idea on which programming language I should use for the wedding planning guide they have and also maybe a good system for setting up the advertisiers ?

2. In your opinion, Is this going to be something a newbie to programming could do?

3. I have already done all of the graphic design for the site. Would it be expensive to have someone do the programming for me on a outsourcing site or another source?

Thanks for all of your help
Brian

1. Any server-side language will do. ASP.NET, JSP, PHP, etc .. it's a matter of preference really. They can all achieve what you want.

2. Yep. Shouldn't be a problem but if you plan to make your website professional and hacker-proofed, better have some seasoned developer do it.

3- No Idea, always done my stuff myself but judging by the glimpses of features you mentioned, it will probably gonna cost you a bit.

Making it shouldn't be that hard, but if you are going to store other people's personal information on that website, security should be really stressed and I personally do not think that a person new the language of php should try this. To get a programmer to do that may cost you quite some money. I would personally suggest php because you can then integrate mysql into your website. (I am not saying that you can only use php with mysql, just that php is the easiest to use with mysql).

Visual Basic or ASP, easy, neat, simple, do it on a .NET framework.

Absolutely. You can download Visual Basic Express from the Microsoft (for free). If you are beginner, just use pre-made starter kits, also offered by the Microsoft.

It depends on the size of your project. Use freelance service and let others bid for your project.

I wouldn't suggest .NET if you are new to programming for the web. PHP is much more easier to deploy although it might spoil the programmer with its global function mess. I would use Visual Web Developer Express instead of Visual Basic.NET Express if you insist on using .NET. Never use ASP (but ASP.NET) as the its a dying language.
