Actually, I think he's more looking for a screen capture program to record an actual demonstration of the software as either a sales or tutorial type fashion. If that's the case, I'd suggest Fraps. it is used by the guys who do those video game videos, but will easily lend itself to recording what's on the screen. It's $37 and very powerful with a free trial.

Other programs are like Camtasia and Adobe's Captivate, but these are hundreds of dollars and a bit overkill. I would try the fraps and see how it goes.
Also, just a tip, to keep file size low, try recording in a lower screen resolution like 800x600. You can still get your point across without killing your bandwidth when your trying to display this video.
