***Further updates on RIP OPEN online phase 1 scheduled between 13th to 15th Jan (i.e. 3 days) will be sent only to registered participants through email.
You can even register for online phase 2 (25th Jan-27th Jan) now itself.
So Register soon!

Quark 2009, the Tech-fest of BITS Pilani, Goa Campus, will be held in 7th-9th Feb, 2009. Last year, Quark’08 was a great success reflecting the professionalism of dedicated Bitsians. We were able to conduct innovative events and workshops and gained an awesome sponsorship. Our college and tech-fest are one of the fastest growing in the whole India. Special performances like the one by “Feeding the Fish”, an international juggling troupe who had performed in Olympics, DJ Nights, Rock Nights added more to Quark than just a technical gala!

One of the innovative events this time in Quark, is “Rip Open” which concentrates on open source development. Unlike most of the technical events, this event involves using analytical & logical skills and your smart work to improve a website, or an open source web application. Instead of coding from scratch, the participants will be provided with the whole source code and they just have to modify it to obtain the output desired according to the problem statement. A basic idea of HTML, CSS, Javascript etc. (if you lack that also then short tutorials are uploaded on the website to help you out) is more than enough to participate in this event. You are allowed to use internet or do anything you wish (e.g. copy paste existing codes, call your friend even-not an issue) during this event to get help. I think that this is an exciting event and you will definitely learn a lot just by participating in it. Participate in this ice-breaker event and “learn by analyzing”.

So are you ready to explore the world of Open Source, without the need of being an expert programmer/designer? Then make sure you take part in the Online Phase 1 of Rip Open starting on 13th Jan 2009 and ending on 15th Jan 2008 (i.e. for 3 days)

NOTE- It is compulsory for you to register yourself if you are interested to take part in Rip Open as only after registration you will be sent the further updates on Rip Open, rules of online phases and the dates of Online Phase 2 through your email.

Visit Quark website- http://www.bits-quark.org/index2.php?id=rip_open for registration, tutorials, round structure and specific details of the event.
