Suggest an editor
Please, feel free to suggest an editor for HTML
I'm struggling to find anything remotely like dreamweaver and since seeing the price tag for CS4 I want to stop being an adobe user. I feel dirty
Please, if anyone knows of a good html editor (with css management and project control) that would be fantastic.
Cheers
Dal

I'm not trying to encourage you to do something illegal, but I "found" Dreamweaver CS4 for free.
It's the best editor I've come across, so far.

Well thats the whole problem, I found CS3 for free too but it still doesnt make it any better, infact it makes it worse (apparently the thing about Adobe is that in the T&C they state that they dont officially support their own product! , I really hate adobe as much as a hate M$... bring back Macromedia, they seemed to know what they were doing )
CS4 isnt available on mnova from what I can see but I'll just wait until I've exhausted all options.
Thanks Nico

What would you need support for anyway?
I love Adobe! I love how I can create an image in Photoshop, save it as .psd, and import it in After Effects or Premier, with all its layers/transparency/etc... Or how I can "link" two programs. For example, I can create a composition in After Effects, save it (without closing AE), and then use Adobe's Dynamic Link to "link" this composition to Premier. So every time I make a change in After effects, it automatically changes in Premier too.
Plus their software is easy to use. If you learn how to use one of their programs, you'll find it even easier to learn the others, as they all work pretty much the same way.
Except for their prices, I don't see a reason to hate Adobe...
And I can PM you a link if you want.

Well I've had nothing but issues with dreamweaver (from mx ver to present CS3) random crashes, formatting issues, sloooooowwww file access with the tendancy to slow other programs down (I have to click dreamweaver restore (screen restore that is, ie maximise, when I want winamp to load otherwise it just doesnt open) There's a huge list of other reasons why I cant stand DW.
Flash got a whole load more complicated and it does some seriously stupid things.I tried to edit a movie inside flash and took off the first and last 200 frames and went back to play the movie and it magically mangaged to find the first part of the movie again. I hate the fiddly envornment and it worked alot better when Macromedia owned it.
Premier, well thats just a great app I'll give them that! I always have problems with the codecs but I dont suppose thats adobes fault.
Mainly its the prices I hate them for. If I bought an adobe package... I mean when I baught the adobe package I paid through the teeth for it and my whole computer system, peripherals, monitor plus windows didnt amount to the same cost as their package. Now with all the economy problems it seems adobe have just doubled the package price (well its gone up anyway)
The company is owned and run by M$ evil twin or so it seems.
I read your post on the windows 7 thing and you seemed to like Vista, how can I take you seriously Nico really! (Just joking)
Kind regards
Dal

I never had any of these problems. But then again, I have a very powerful computer. So that might be the reason.

I never really used Flash, so I can't argue that.

Never had problems with codecs either, except for some HD video files. But that's probably my video camera's fault for having such a stupid format!

To be bloody honest, I have most of their software, and I didn't pay for any of it. I completely agree with you about it being way too expensive.
Lol, what's so bad about Vista, though? The only thing that used to annoy me were these stupid security pop ups asking you for permission. But only until I figured out how to turn these off.

Indeed, I suppose it has some good points but I think I like XP pro better. It also has a now a solid foundation and all my programs work with it. Vista has some issues with older programs and oh, my games which I must have available at all times for stress relief (then again, their getting so damn real I get more stressed out when playing, I actually feel pain when I get shot in a game now its quite scary )
Cheers

A good one that is very similar to dreamweaver is nvu. It is an open source project looking to provide the same functionality. I've used it and personally prefer Dreamweaver, but I've never had any of the issues that DAL posted about.
Here's the site... http://www.net2.com/nvu/
I think it started as a linux project that got ported to Windows, but worth a look.

I'm in the same boat, I've had a hard time finding an editor that compares to Dreamweaver, (and one that doesn't require a bunch of re-learning)
My company is actually a paying customer of Adobe software, but when it comes time to format / re-install, or upgrade machines, we usually "go around" the activation, because nothing is worse than paying big money and having to call Adobe and listen to them scold you for not "de-activating" before formatting. (when half the time, deactivating fails anyway).

Thanks bizzar528, I'm actually really interested in that NVU, sounds like the thing. Looking at the screen shots it doesnt look stylish but it should be faster at switching between browser and the editor.
therocket954 (whats 954 about anyway I wonder ) so there shouldnt be anything technically wrong in doing that which opens all sorts of doors really.
Cheers
