Any book by O'reilly for php is great. The normal php book is great, and the cookbook will walk you through example applications from start to finish.

O'reilly PHP Books

I would also suggest picking up a mysql book as well as these 2 tend to go hand in hand. Good luck with your searching!

Tizag.com has a PHP section with lessons of real life examples. Not a substitution for a book, but definitely worth taking a look at.

Bizzar - whats 'The normal php book'? I cant seem to find anything regarding that on google.

I actually don't own 1 single php book and thought it was about time I bought one. I seem to be wearing out the php manual site (www.php.net)

Cheers
Dal
