Question Instant Messaging

Hi,
I'm looking for some kind of instant messaging software to use over a corporate Lan. I run an IT Helpdesk and if a major incident happens I need to make the front line guys aware. I usually send a mass mail, however half don't read em! Just looking for something that will pop up on the screen once I send the message?

Any Ideas?

Steve

I have no idea I'm afraid! What would be best?
As I say, I just want to type in a message, and I want it to be able to pop up on the first line analysts screens.

I can't use any web based IM systems, the info that I am sending is company confidential. We cannot risk any kind of security breach.
Bummer eh?

What OS are you running?

You could create a MS DOS batch file to net send a message to every computer you wish, this displays a pop up message in the center of the screen.

Synatx:
net send computername message

But, IIRC, this only works on XP/2k.

I did think that, and have tried it, However some people don't notice, and if they are typing away quite happy they could clear it and not even notice.
Not making this easy eh!?!?!

Windows 2000 is the O/S.

You could use some of the proprietry systems available like MSN, AIM etc. But as you said you want to maintain security, these might not be the best option. There are some products available which allow you to run your own IM network. A Google search should reveal all. You might also want to setup some secure forums to allow your staff to communicate via those - and have records.

Yeah, again I tried the secure forums. However, I would update them but there wern't checked. Do you know of any names of the IM programs/ scripts?
Thanks
