I have question ....

I recently upgraded a site, from a PHP 4/5 server to a PHP5 only server, within the same hosting company, so the name servers did not change, but the server IP changed.

Should the transition be instantaneous or would DNS caching cause requests to go to the old servers until TTL was met?

Depends. If the DNS is changed, it can take up to 72 hours if the entry is being cached, but generally a new request from a different dns server should pull what the current value is. Worst case, you can use nslookup to see what the value being returned from the dns server is.

If it's not working after 72 hours, then it wasn't done right.
