Totally ignorant newbie needs help!

Hello all,

I am feeling incredibly overwhelmed & I'm hoping some of you programming gurus can help.

I want to start a swingers community with personals, reviews, articles, etc. The two things I am looking at are "Mojo Personals 3" & "Esvon Classifieds". What I am having poblems with are the system requirements.

For Mojo Personals 3 the requirements are:
  • Perl 5 (or better) with CGI.pm module.
  • Ability to run CGI and change file permissions.
  • Current version of MySQL
  • Free Perl Modules DBI and dbd::mysql loaded (usually pre-installed with MySQL, check with your host or server admin)
  • optional: Some time-scheduling job such as cron tabs (cron jobs) to expire ads, members profile, etc.
Do I have to download these onto my computer to get "Mojo Personals 3" to work? Or, do I just make sure that I choose a host that supports Perl 5, MySQL, etc.?

The requirements for "Esvon Classifieds" are:

PHP 4.1 - Your web server must have PHP 4.1 or better. Your network administrator can download the latest version of PHP from http://www.php.net. PHP is extremely common though, and installed on virtually every webserver on Earth.
MySQL 3.23.x - MySQL (http://www.mysql.org) is an open-source robust SQL database engine. Most of web hostings support MySQL. You can contact your ISP / web hosting in order to make sure that they have support for MySQL databases.
<LI>Zend Optimizer Zend Optimizer™ - Optimize your PHP code
version 2.1.0 http://www.zend.com/images/empty.gif

Run encoded files and enhance the performance of your PHP scripts - FREE

The Zend Optimizer is a free application that runs the files encoded by the Zend Encoder and Zend SafeGuard Suite, while enhancing the running speed of PHP applications. Benefits
  • <LI class=hp>Enables users to run files encoded by the Zend Encoder
  • Increases runtime performance up to 40%.
I know that I'm in way over my head with this stuff but I can't afford to outsource the work. I'm willing to take classes, read books, etc. in order to get a good grasp on the things I need in order to make my site successful. I've taken some design classes (I'll be taking more this fall) & that is my strong point, not this. Any advice, comments, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Help!

Dawn

Dawn,

you need to have all this software to be installed on your webserver. If you're not sure about your current webhosting or you don't have one you can use hosting offered by mojoscripts.com that is ready-to-use with all mojoscripts scripts :-)

The things you need are pretty much the industry standards for *nix webservers.

I could help you find a host with them if you need, otherwise, just ask your webhost. You DONT need to download this things onto your computer.
