Is SEO a myth?

I noticed that a lot of people put a lot of effort in getting their SEO right. But is it really worth the effort? Here is an interesting thought:

Forum SEO is a myth

Different people have different opinion about this. Some people say that this is useless but some are very optimistic. So that is depend on you that how you believe.

SEO is one enormous blob! Nobody exactly knows what he/she should do to improve the ranking of his/her site. There are some general common improvements that everybody knows about (geo-tagging, content-keyword relevance, sitemap, etc...), but in the end it's still the search engine that determines what the value (and thus the rank) is of your site.

@Doriangray: SEO isn't supposed to be for internationals only, local brands and companies can profit from SEO as well. The main goal of SEO is to promote your product or service by gaining a hogher ranking in google. As both local and (inter)national companies strive to improve their product awareness, SEO applies to both of them.

I think the main element in SEO is to distinguish yourself from the rest regarding contents.

I completely agree! You can use a shitload of tricks to get your SEO up, but in the end all will come down to good and valuable content.

what I know is its working but since we do not have full control (mostly by google) then it makes it not a science.

I totally disagree for lots of people do SEO and find the result well though by doing it you should be patient and wait for the desired goal to achieved.

That's just the problem: time. When you're a brand new company you would like to position yourself on the market to attrackt clients. The only way to do so is by drawing attention to your company, and preferably fast, because otherwise you're not gaining any profit of your advertising.

You can create a similar situations with posters: you can either show them on a huge advertising board where thousands of people pass by every hour, or you could stick them to a wall in a dark alley, where a single hobo comes around every once and a while...

To end with a brilliant quote from Futurama: It's all about imaging! Imaging, people! Imaging!

SEO only works if the company looking to high rank is already established, or comes with a big budget for online marketing. if it's a large company who hires another company to do their SEO then it will work , but if it's just some guy with an online shop of 10 items, trying to get his business out there, it obviously won't work no matter how good the site content is.
