PDA programming... Which language?

Hey everybody,

First of all, I don't really know where to post this, so I decided I'd post it here. Mods: feel free to move it to the most suitable forum.

Right, a friend of me has asked me to write him a program which he can use on his PDA. Basically it'll be something like this:

* He will have a PC/server at home, most probably using either MySQL or SQL Server as database system
* On the job he will have a PDA on which he will store information he collects (in this case details of products, consisting of technical details of every item)
* Arriving home (or maybe even in between jobs?) he will synchronize his PDA with the PC/server, transferring all the collected information into the database
* With a program on the PC/Server he will be able to show and print the details from the database.

Now, the problem is: I haven't got a clue where to start! I know my way around PHP/MySQL pretty well, have done a bit in JavaScript/AJAX and have programmed in VB.Net and REALBasic. So... Where do I go from here?

I've googled the internet and searched these forums, but haven't found a lot. Except for one post on here about using MSQM Message Queue in combination with the .NET framework and SQL Server, but again: I'm lost and don't know where to go. So, any good websites or reading material to get me started? Pointers in the right direction?

Many thanks in advance,
Thyrosis

I might start off by asking what PDA he has, as they use different operating systems, which require different coding.

Oh... Hmm, well I don't know. I do know that he's fixing me a QTek 2020 to try things with. I'm pretty sure he's got a QTek as well, so supposedly we're looking at Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC Phone Edition (or later, as the new S200 works with 5.0)

Well that should give you some hints as to where to start.

Google - Windows Mobile 2003 programming

Now why didn't I think of that myself... I only googled on PDA terms, not the OS.

Thanks Nico, that should get me started =)
