Create List with PHP ...?

I am looking for a PHP script/program that will allow me to create a list similar to a petition. It is for a signup sheet. I want to be able to have people go to a webpage, type in their name, and have it added to the list. For instance, say I wanted to have a party at the local bowling alley and wanted people to signup if they were going to come. Johnny would like to come so he goes to the site, types in his name and hits enter. His name is then added to the list as number 15. I would like the list of names to be displayed as each person "sign's up".

Is this possible and with what script can it be done. I have looked around the net a little bit but was unable to find anything. What do I search for?

Thanks

Perhaps even a CGI script could do this. All I would need is a single input field (for the person's name). All the script would have to do is take that name and append it to a text file or something. It would also need a counter that would add one number to the listing for each entry.

Ok, I didn't know that, thanks for clarifying. So PHP may be CGI but not all CGI is PHP right? All I am saying is that perhaps there are other type of scripts or languages that could accomplish this. It can't be that hard. I don't know any languages other then HTML though, so I can't do this. Please someone, tell me you have seen something like this before. Thanks.

I just thought I would let everyone who reads this know that I found a script to do this. The program is called My Signup Sheet (it's like the 10th program in the list). It can be downloaded for FREE from this URL: http://www.fuzzymonkey.org/cgi-bin/n...y/software.cgi

Thanks for reading. I would still be interested in knowing if anyone else knows of another script out there that can be downloaded. If so, paste the URL for that script here. Thanks.
