I'm not sure, if this place best matches the question I'd like to ask, but i hope you could help me.

I'm wondering if i can download the php files from servers - i mean not the hmmm... executed (?) pages, but the source of the php file. is it possible? if yes, how can i do this?

Or else people would just be able to steal the source of any php file on the web - and that wouldnt be too fair to those who make them

The only way to download the source of a php file is if its in a package like zip or tar or if its saved as .phps

its possible if the host lets you, if it is on your server and you want users to be able to download you would use headers
