Here are some reasons why I chose PHP:

1. It's free. I can download the PHP engine and run it without having to pay any licensing fees.
2. Cross platform compatible. PHP will run on Linux, Windows, etc.
3. Large user community. There is a large user base out there full of knowledge. I know when I have a problem that I can use sites such as programming talk to find the solution.

1. Great documentation with many tips, tricks and hints by experienced coders.
2. Like jayhawk said, it's free and cross platform compatible.
3. I've already tried ASP and found PHP to be 100 times easier.

Sorry gotta disagree with that. ASP is free. Ive been using it for years, never had to pay for it.

Simply put in your windows disk, install IIS, and there you have it. You can also download ASP.NET for free from the microsoft website. And ASP.NET will kick the crap out of another language out there.

PHP.... errr its not the best language out there. Since its an opensource language its good, anyday better than ASP tho (Nothing made by M$ is good, come on you have to agree with that; they always have some evil in it).

But php isn't a very powerfull language, but their trying to make it better (as you can see with the move towards OO in php 5; but its still not there yet). I'd say its an okay lanuage. I prefere Java and other languages like that.... um

I dont know why people say Microsoft cant make anything good. Just because Windows Products are not open source does not mean they all suck.

I find people that think that open source products are better just because they are free are close minded.

The fact that something is not open source signifies that the creators are less open for improvements by the actuals users. BUT, when someone spend months and months developing a good product, of course they want payoff. So it's kind of a predicament.

Open source - More experts can help develop and improve your product
Not open source - You get your salary for your hard work.

But yes, just because it isn't open source doesn't mean it isn't good. Microsoft on the other hand are just basically "teh suxx0rz". They have the visions but not the skills

Who ever said just because its opensource it becomes good?
M$ is just known to make cheap crappy stuff; its a know fact you all can see it. No one likes M$ (most of the people who know about computers atleast). Their marketing plan is evil, everything depends on their systems. They even went and screwed up the good old HTML... (on IE) and now look at the sites.

The history behind M$ its self is bad enough, there are reasons why people don't like M$ you know; not just because they are not open source. People prefere Macs over Windows anyday, and that isn't open source.
It's sad that im forced to use Windows- damm schools.....

But with Linux, since its opensource; well you can do wonders with it
