I have just started a job and taken over 3 sites. All sites offer downloads, where the user fills in a form before they can download info/free sample software. One site has just been redesigned, I have to migrate the other two into that template design as my first task. Thing is, the existing sites use perl to process info given when someone downlad,s but the new site that I am basing the new ones on uses PHP. I know PHP but not perl, but is it better to use perl than PHP in this situation? Al that needs to happen is for the info to go to a mail box and the pdf to open - surely I can just use PHP for this or would I be better off learning some perl?

If the server supports PHP then use PHP, if it supports Perl then use Perl! It really doesnt matter if you code them to do the same thing (PHP derived from Perl so they are very similar) which language to use! If you cant understand/code Perl then just re-code it in PHP
