Where to get Started?

Hi, I'm looking to develop an Apache, PHP, MySQL server combination to run a website for a tennis league. I want users to be able to log in and be able to view win/loss records, as well as report scores for their last matches. Is this possible to do with PHP/MySQL? I'm new to server administration, and would really like to implement this. Are there any examples or tutorials that fits the bill?
