.htaccess and frontpage extentions?

Hi, I want to add a htaccess file, but because I have frontpage extensions running aswell it all gets confusing. When I delete the extension everything in my site returns 403 Forbidden errors, but when I have them both running I get internal server errors... Any ideas?
