Question Forum/Board - MySQL = Possible?

Hello.

I'm working for some site and we need a board system. The problem is that the webhoster doesn't offer MySQL as default, and getting one would mean extra charge.

So, I'm looking for a PHP web-board/forum that doesn't need MySQL to run... a good one with a lot of options. Any recommendation?

Something like what Invision & myPHP offers, just without the MySQL requirement ^_^

I've been trying to search but there are so many names... and I don't know a lot about the topic.

Thanks in advance ^_^

There are a few in the Discussion Boards section of PHP. Two come to the top of my head, those being edgeboard and navboard. How ever I am unsure how functional these are because I myself have never used them.

Are you looking for something that just doesn't need mySQL meaning it could use postgre or something else? or are you looking for something that doesn't require a database and would use a flat-file (like what yabb used to do)

For a light forum - you could use a flat-file database. Basically this is where all the information is stored in a text file. However, there are security issues and beyond that, almost all hosts don't allow this because they can tend to be resource intensive.

I'd suggest you find a new host that gives you at least 1 database, or you coud pay the extra fee to stay with your current host.

If your host is charging for MySQL Databases find a different host!!!!!!!!!!!

MySQL is completly free, so why they would charge, probably because they are just gredy a_______s (fill in the blank lol).

The flat file forum I like is from www.Simplemedia.org/
Easy to set up and good admin section.
