MySQL Database Problem

When i try to create a database using mysql_query, it tells me that access has been denied...but how is that possible considering the database hasn't been made? how do i have my access deneied to a database that doesn't exist yet... please help!

Have you created a MySQL user and given it proper permissions?

yes, i have a user with the proper permissions...
though, i dont have any idea how to edit user permissions....

Maybe email your host and see if they have it disabled. Some hosts will disable add and drop, as well as other similar functions, as a security measure and allow you to do everything through cPanel, etc...

my host says that the functions are enabled....
