Question source code for booking system or such like

Hi,
I am wanting to learn to develop in php/mysql and break away from the mainframe world that I work in.
I have an idea to try developing a system like say a on-line booking system for accomodation.
Does anybody know where I could get some source code to start me off that I can build on so it does not feel such a big scary task. I am imagining something with a calendar for bookings and a profile of accomodation/house/bach.
Thanks for anyone that can give me a pointer.

What you're trying to do sounds like a very straight forward and do'able PHP & MySQL project and, in my opinion, is a good template to start "breaking away". If you're interested in teaching yourself, I would strongly recommend PHP & MySQL for Dynamic Web Sites (Visual QuickPro) - By Larry Ullman. This book teaches by example, and is perfect for starters and current developers looking for a decent reference book to refresh their memories.

Alternatively you could directly request the type of script you're looking for by posting in the Script Requests Forum, although I would recommend the first option.

sounds like a big project to start with... i would get a book on PHP have a scan on the P2P networks there is usually some on there also... you may even find your source code on there

first stop for scripts and help is always Google though

Thanks but there's more

Thanks for the input guys,
I have played around with a bit of HTML and done some of the PHP books so I've also done heaps of database work so the MYSQL bit is fine.
So I got the basics of what I need to do.
Its really a confidence issue I spose and a focus. I feel it is easier have an idea to focus towards and to see something similar with the bits working together then make amendments to it rather that the deep-end approach that tends to make for a putting off of the start.
So I'll keep looking, I've had a search around with Google but will try your suggestions........ so still looking
