we are having problems with the ipn sending like 50 ipn notifications to our server for 1 item....

so I'm guessing there is maybe something out script is supposed to send back to the paypal server once the ipn is recieved. just wondering what this block of code would be...

No but thank you it did help me understand a bit, but I'm not really understanding either method.

The second method where you post everything back to the paypal server but is there a nice quick way to do it?
