displaying data from a db
what would i type to make it select the email variable of the user $_COOKIE[username], i have this but i get an error when i try to display $id

$id = mysql_query("SELECT id FROM users WHERE username = $username");

what kind of error are you getting?
is there a value in $username before you use it?
