I use a few different editors, but you'll definitely enjoy Komodo Edit...

Plus, it's free!

Notepad++ for small things. Eclipse PDT for larger projects.

On my Win machine I use PSPad, and TextMate on my Mac.

On my Ubuntu machine (still relatively new install) I'm still testing out some various editors, but I'm liking Screem.

I've tried quite a few, and found the most intuitive for me was Zend. It will let you know in nearly real time that you have a syntax error, what it relates to and will show where it begins by underlining it and all the errors that cascade from that. Unfortunately, they've done away with the reasonably priced low end version so I need to replace it.

I've tried a few that will spot the error, but it will only say "syntax error" while highlighting the whole line and no other hints. Helpful, but not great. Others require the file to be saved, then either debugged or analyzed...and if editing directly on the server, this can be problematic.

Anyone know of an editor that will highlight syntax errors in real time in a similar fashion, and isn't several hundred dollars?

[EDIT] Post #2 above for Komodo. That has error highlighting similar to Zend, just took a bit of playing to get it to function. Know anything better, I'm all ears.

Haven't found anything for free better than Komodo yet...

On another note...

And should I even say it...?

Visual Studio :-)

I'll be doing some .NET -> PHP integration stuff soon, so I'll probably try out VS.Php for Visual Studio.
Since I already have Visual Studio, it seems to be a no-brainer.

Does anyone have any experience with VS.Php?

Oh ya... I use Dreamweaver CS3 all the time. Haven't upgraded yet to CS4, but I'll probably do that as well.

As others have noted, Notepad++ looks good, but I haven't tried it yet.

I actually have too many editors :-)
