X-cart is very slow and extremely hard to update with products. You will soon find yourself in a constant upgrading this and that mode. The forum is only filled with people that charge for their services and it is extremely hard to navigate through. The portals to upgrad the products will only allow 5 mbs and then stop. Soon you find you will have to delete the product completely and then create a new product just to update the product. I actually pulled X-cart down and had nothing until I got a new shopping cart. up and running. What I used was OS Commerce. The forums are easy to use and find information. I had a minor issue and I got 21 suggestions on what I can do and I tried all and they all worked. The OS Commerce community is very helpful and understanding of newbies. There are no "Tech Snobs". When I spent 2 hours searching for information on X-cart forum and I finally asked a question I got 7 answers saying the same thing, I know what you need to do but you have to search for it. I set up OS Commerce in less than 4 hrs and was selling the same day.
