Wink (Still) trying to install mySQL on winXP! (IIS)

Hello again,

I’ve downloaded and installed the mySQL setup file, but I’m trying to work my way through the setup instructions (on the mySQL site) and it isn’t really making any sense to me.

It’s going on about binaries and services and command line prompts! Eek!

I opened Windows Services from the control panel / admin, and mySQL was in there, but I wasn’t able to start it. I think it is something to do with these binaries? I am possibly supposed to run either mySQLd or mySQL-nt? (whatever that is, and this seems to have something to do with command line prompts and -- symbols) I can see some files in c:/mySQL/bin called mySQLd & mySQL-nt (they are .exe files, but I’m not keen to just start clicking them!) I know I need to go into the mySQL control panel and set up passwords and things too… but I’m lost in techno-jargon land!

Is there any *easy* way to explain what I’m supposed to do? (ie a step-by-step mySQL for Muppets guide?! Been looking through the net but haven’t found anything that makes sense to me!)

I used to think I had a modicum of intelligence to my name! Apparently not.

Any help for a damsel in distress would be much appreciated.

Hi,

For windows, i use phpdev bundle.

www.firepages.com.au

download it and install it, it will save you alot of hasstle, not unless there's some reason you want to install MySQL by itself.
