Can someone lead me into the right direction of the feature within x miles of City, State or Zip?

I dont want to make a database that will link everything together but I have a feeling it has something to do with longitude and latitude points. I am not sure at all how to do it.

Any help/direction will be greatly appreciated.

For instance if I have a franchise with multiple stores all over and I want to show all of the stores within 30 miles of zip code 07740 how does that work?

easiest way would be to use latitude and longitude and use the google maps api's...

Okay, so to get my plan ready, first I query the address to google maps api and store those coordinates into my database and when I query the stores from my database I will do a between thing...

Now all I am missing is how to convert miles to longitude and latitude numbers?
