Unhappy sessions

hi all,
ok the scenario for it is suppose to be like this:
Quote:

from a login page(index.php) will go to the member's account according to the username and password.so this main page after the user has signed in will contain a session code there right?so there, there will be a menu where u can click like uploading photo and so on...so this username will be brought to that uploading page..right? lets say u are allowed to upload 30 images..and it belongs to that user..so that means we have to identify that set of 30 images belongs to that particular user by his/her username to the database..so this involves sessions...right?but how?i am not good in sessions as i dunno how it really works...i have looked into certain examples but still can't make it out of something...
i hope u can understand me? http://forums.devshed.com/images/smilies/frown.gif and i hope someone can help me as i am drowning here....pls help...
