Cool layout templates: mysql or files

Im going to be writing some forums so for the layout templates so you can edit your forum layout i was wondering what would be a better place to put the templates in, a mysql database or in files?

Files with variables in it for the html and config files and stuff. look at how phpbb does their templates templates or invision's templates and decide which one u like better and how to do it. Thats the best way I can tell you to do templates for a forum.
