Looking for a good, strong, reliable PHP search script.

Hi. Anybody knows of a good php search script that I can put on my website for users to search forum threads stored on a database and view them? My site is a computer help forum sort of like computing.net

For each category, let's say "Windows Xp" all threads after the 10th page are stored in mysql database and it is not viewable to the public unless they use the search feature. I want to be able to search and display those stored threads. If this script has advanced marketting features like search word count, etc. the better. Thanks in advance.

JM

script request

I know this forum is for Script Requests and please don't take my reply personally ... but people who post in this forum really need to understand what they are asking for before they submit their request.

What you are asking for is not practical. It's sort of like asking for an engine for an automotive ... well - you sort of need to know if your dealing with a motorcycle or a car etc... and then you need to know the make and model before anyone can even recommend an engine.....

In your case - one would need to know what kind of database you are running (mysql, oracle, sybase etc.) ... what kind of script are you looking for (PHP, asp, perl etc.). ... is the site running on linux or NT?
What forum are you running?

Aside from that - if you got passed all of the above questions - it's very possible that no generic script will work with your database - unless if you happen to be using a commercial or popular product... then you should be asking the person or site where you got the forum from if they know of any generic scripts out there...

Generally speaking - scripts (free or not) are great - but when you want to start integrating different scripts together (especially from different authors) it gets very complicated -- it's sort of like having an awsome tool - such as a chainsaw which can cut down a forest .. but now you are asking for an add-on so you can use it to cut your lawn... it's not very practical... sorry for the analogy but a lot of people out there just don't get it... your probably best off paying someone to design what your looking for - or search for a new forum which offers exactly what you are looking for.

Relax buddy. Can tell you are in the arguing mood.

PHP, mysql. I guess you didn't read my message and just went to show off. Can't you ask me for the information you would need instead of posting that message? Do you expect everybody coming here to be as geeky as you are? I'm telling you, lots of weirdos out here. First time I visited this forum... I just posted a question and I just don't like the attitude of this forum. Too strict! Moderator delete my account from this forum. I wonder why there were so few posts. Now you have the answer.

Like I said - don't take my reply personally. I guess you did - sorry. and yes - maybe i missed the mysql part but I was trying to get my point across - there were too many unknowns.

Please understand - there are just as many people out there that get angry and frustrated and feel that these kind of forums 'suck' when someone doesn't reply with a solution... I was just trying to get my point across that it's not as simple as just requesting a script .. and voila - you get what your looking for...

the major point i was trying to get across is that if you find a script - great .. but it's very hard to find other scripts to work with those original great scripts you found...
