Question chat rooms and forums for my site?

G-Day. I'm new to all this java stuff and i was wondering if some one would help me out. What I want is a chat room that runs totally off my site (no other server sites) and also i need a forum for this other site. Also its gotta be free! So if any one can help me out i would be really happy to hear from yas. The chat room is just so me and my friends can talk online together so it only needs to suport like 10 people or so.

infaced this forum works exaclly how i want mine to work!!!

And another thing, is java the code to use for chat rooms? You can tell i got a lot to learn can't ya well thats all

forums are easy to find, and are free, just do a google search, I personally like phpBB2 theirs is good. A chat room sounds complicated....and when things get complicated companies move in and make a profit off it therefor I don't think u will find one for free. If you want to build one from scratch my advice is to try JXTA, it's java's P2P service

phpBB would be your best choice for forum software, and with the 2.2 update on the way it will be much much better than Invision and VBB.

X7 Chat

PHPBB is a very good script.

X7 Chat is a good chat script to, http://www.x7chat.com/. Not only does it include complete admin control but also tons of features. Its open source and free to so you can modify to match your site. The new version just came out this week with a brand new layout that looks great IMO.

The chat is written in PHP and uses javascript for updates, it does not click like almost every other PHP chat client on the internet and the list of features is very extensive.

X7 Chat now includes an authentication module for PHPBB so you can use your existing PHPBB database with X7 Chat!
