Private Messaging System (PMS)

ok i have a really good login script i have used, and i am trying to implement the ability to send private messages to users, i also need it to have the ability that when the user logs in it says how many new messages they have .. etc. anyone know any good tutorials, or scripts out there?

i have found this one, http://zulumonkey.org/id=tutorials&page=comment&oid=41
but i need something a little more.
